ARTIST STATEMENT This series of paintings was created specifically with the intention of calming and relaxing the viewer. To me, Koi fish are soothing to watch as they gracefully meander around in the silence of water. I am also very inspired by the color palette of these fish in contrast to the beautiful hues of the water, lilly pads and of course the vibrant lotus flowers. Below are some of the sketches I did in preparation for these paintings. I came along a beautiful koi pond and I sat down to watch them. I went into a deep meditation and the world became simple and clear. Please enjoy. GRANT SEARCEY Mr. Searcey is currently working as an illustrator for an on-going series of books which help professionals in the workplace build stronger working relationships. He has four paintings being reproduced and distributed globally with the Lucasfilm® Interpretive Artist Program where his highly stylized renditions of the Lucas characters can be found in galleries and shops world-wide. One of Grant’s recent paintings was part of A Collection of Rare Interpretive Art Work Inspired by Family Guy! In association with Twentieth Century Fox and Acme Archives this show kicked off at LA LUZ de JESUS Gallery in Los Angeles and it is currently on tour to Toronto, London, Sydney, New York, Chicago and San Franscisco. Just prior to this koi series here at Alchemy, Grant completed an eight painting collection inspired by Skid Row in Downtown Los Angeles.
